  • Pole
  • 120-grit sandpaper
  • Tape
  • Containers
  • Knife or blade
  • Ladder
  • Sponge
  • Waste clothes or papers
  • Rubber or cotton gloves
  • Apron
  • Goggles
  • Face mask

There is only one perfect method of smoked stains knockout. We have divided the process into two parts. The first part is about preparing the wall or surface for getting a new paint coat. The second part tells you how to paint the wall so that it looks like new. We have already told you which tools and materials you are going to need. So, let's look at the method.

Prepare the Wall for Painting

No matter what type of paint you buy, you can get the best of it until the surface takes the paint well. That is why we are focusing on preparing the surface, unlike others. Here is a step by step guide for this task.

  • First of all, you have to wear goggles, gloves, and other safety equipment to keep you clean and safe.
  • Remove the furniture from your room. If you can't do so, then you need to cover them with large clothes like an old bedsheet, curtains, and many others. You also need to remove calendars, clocks, paintings, and any crafts from the wall. Then, put some paper or clothes on the floor so that your floor stays clean.
  • Take a large and dry sponge. Use them to rub every part of the walls. You can use ladders to rub the ceiling and upper parts of the wall. But make sure that you are not rubbing too hard. You need to clean the sponge after every couple of strokes on the wall.
  • After dry rubbing, stains can fade a bit. Now, take the TSP or phosphate solution in a large container. You have to mix some warm water with the solution. Soak a new sponge with this solution and start rubbing walls with that sponge. After two or three strokes, rinse the sponge well and soak it with phosphate solution again to do the rubbing. After rubbing the whole area, clean the walls and ceiling with clean water not to let any phosphate solution stay, which can cause damage to new paint coats.

The steps mentioned above can make smoke stains dull. But stains or the awkward odor cannot be eliminated by cleaning or rubbing. So, you have to apply the "Step 2" to make your interior flawless.

Give Some Quality Paint Coats

Now, you have got your walls and ceiling prepared. It is time to take primer, paints, brushes, and rollers to start painting.

  • Check your walls, whether they are dry or not, after using TSP. If they are dry enough, then open the lid of the primer can. Stir the primer well. You can either use a large brush or roller with a pole to give primer coatings. Check the thickness of the primer and start giving the same type of coat in every place. When you are done coating, wait for walls to get dry. After that, give another coat of primer and wait for the second coat to dry.
  • Now, take a piece of sandpaper and start sanding on the walls and ceiling. It makes the primer coating layer an even surface to paint.
  • Finally, take the paint thinner and pour it into the paint bucket, depending on the thickness you require. Stir the mixture properly. Then, take a roller and start giving paint coats on the surfaces. After giving the first coat, wait for at least 15 minutes, and apply another coat. After all of these, check those surfaces carefully to see if there is any place left to paint. Cover those areas with the paint using a medium paintbrush.
